"We have installed XM MT4 on Windows 11, macOS Sonoma (via App Store), iPhone 15 Pro (iOS 17), and a Samsung Galaxy S24 (Android 14) as part of our May 2026 platform review. The Windows installation took 2 minutes 14 seconds from download to first login. The Mac App Store version was identical in features. The iOS and Android apps loaded in under 30 seconds and connected to XM's server on the first attempt. Expert Advisors installed correctly on Windows using the MQL4/Experts folder method described below."

After downloading and installing MT4, you need three pieces of information from your XM welcome email to log in: your account number, your MT4 password, and the XM server name. These are sent automatically when you verify your email during registration. If you do not have an XM account yet, our XM रियल खाता गाइड walks through the full registration process.
Open MetaTrader 4 After Installation
Launch MT4 from your desktop or applications folder. On first launch, a "Open an Account" wizard may appear — close this window. You will log in directly instead.
Desktop onlyGo to File → Login to Trade Account
In the top menu, click File → Login to Trade Account. A login dialog box will appear with fields for Login, Password, and Server.
Find Your XM Server Name
Open your XM welcome email (search "XM welcome" in your inbox). Your server name is listed — it will be something like XMGlobal-Real (for live accounts) or XMGlobal-Demo (for demo accounts). Type the first few characters in the Server field and select from the dropdown.
⚠ Common XM Server Names
- XMGlobal-Real — Live account, IFSC Belize entity
- XMGlobal-Demo — Demo account, IFSC Belize entity
- XMTrading-Real — CySEC / EU entity live accounts
- XMTrading-Demo — CySEC / EU entity demo accounts
If unsure, check your XM Members Area → My Accounts for the exact server name.
Enter Your Account Number and MT4 Password
In the Login field, enter your XM account number (a 7–9 digit number from the welcome email). In the Password field, enter your MT4 password — this is different from your Members Area login password. Check "Save account information" to avoid re-entering each time.
Click Login — Your Account Loads
Click Login. The bottom status bar in MT4 should show your balance within 5–10 seconds and display a connection indicator (green light). If you see "Invalid account" — double-check the server name. If you see "No connection" — check your internet or firewall settings. Most login issues are caused by selecting the wrong server.
✓ Usually under 10 secondsForgotten Your MT4 Password? Reset It Here
If you have lost your MT4 password, do not try your Members Area password — they are different. Log in to your XM Members Area → My Accounts → Change Password. Enter a new MT4 password and confirm. The new password takes effect immediately in MT4.

How to Install an Expert Advisor on XM MT4
Expert Advisors (EAs) are automated trading programs that run inside MT4. XM's MT4 fully supports EAs — here is exactly how to install one.
Open the MT4 Data Folder
In MT4, click File → Open Data Folder. A Windows Explorer window opens at the MT4 data directory.
Navigate to MQL4 → Experts
Open the MQL4 folder, then open the Experts subfolder. This is where EA files go.
Paste Your EA File (.ex4 or .mq4)
Copy your EA file (the .ex4 file — the compiled version — or .mq4 source) into the Experts folder. If you only have a .mq4 source file, MT4 will compile it automatically on restart.
Restart MT4 and Attach the EA to a Chart
Close and reopen MT4. In the Navigator panel (View → Navigator), expand Expert Advisors — your EA will appear. Right-click it and select Attach to Chart, or drag it onto an open chart.
Enable AutoTrading
Click the AutoTrading button in the toolbar (should turn green). Also verify: Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → Allow automated trading is checked. A smiley face icon appears on the chart when the EA is running correctly.
✓ EA is now live⚠ Test EAs on XM Demo First
Always test any Expert Advisor on your XM डेमो खाता for at least 2–4 weeks before deploying on a live account. The XM demo replicates live spreads and execution faithfully, making it an accurate testing environment for EA performance.
