XM Account Types at a Glance — All Four Compared

Smallest lot sizing available — perfect for learning live markets with minimal financial exposure. Bonus eligible.
Same spreads as Micro but standard lot sizing. Commission-free. Bonus eligible. Most popular account type globally.
Tightest spreads with no commission — the best cost-per-trade option for active traders who execute multiple positions daily.
Raw interbank-style spreads from 0.0 pip with per-lot commission. For high-frequency scalpers who need absolute minimum spread.
"We ran simultaneous live accounts across all four account types in Q1 2026. During the London session peak (08:00–10:00 GMT), EUR/USD on the Ultra Low account averaged 0.62 pip — consistent with XM's advertised minimum. The Zero account showed 0.0–0.1 pip on EUR/USD at the same time, but the $7 round-turn commission makes it more expensive than Ultra Low for positions under 2 standard lots. Gold (XAUUSD) on the Ultra Low averaged $0.27 during London, vs $0.16 on Zero (before commission). The Micro and Standard accounts are identical in all respects except lot unit size — the distinction matters only for very small positions."

XM Account Spread Comparison — EUR/USD Visual
Seeing spread differences as a bar helps understand the relative cost gap between account types. All figures are typical London session averages from our live account testing.
Total cost per standard lot: ~$13. Bonus eligible. Best entry point for beginners.
Total cost per standard lot: ~$7. ~46% cheaper than Standard. Best for day traders doing 1–20 trades/day.
Total cost per standard lot: ~$8 ($1 spread + $7 commission). Only cheaper than Ultra Low at very large position sizes. Best for scalpers doing 50+ trades/day.
💡 Zero vs Ultra Low — Which Is Actually Cheaper?
The Zero account's $3.50/side commission means each round trip costs $7 per standard lot regardless of spread. The Ultra Low at ~0.7 pip average costs ~$7 per standard lot in spread alone — so they are approximately equal cost at 1 standard lot. The Zero account only becomes genuinely cheaper above approximately 2+ standard lots per trade. For most retail traders, the Ultra Low account has a lower effective total cost and is also bonus-eligible.
Which XM Account Type Should You Open? — Trader Profile Guide
The right account depends on three factors: your starting capital, how many trades you execute per day, and whether bonus eligibility matters to you. Here is the breakdown by trader profile.
Complete Beginners and First Live Account
You want to learn live market conditions without putting significant capital at risk. Micro-lot sizing means a 10-pip loss costs ~$0.10 at 0.01 lots. The psychological experience of real money is immediate, but losses remain negligible.
→ Open XM Micro Account ($5)Retail Forex Traders — $5–$500 Capital
You are comfortable with standard lot sizing and plan to deposit $100–$500. You want bonus eligibility and a commission-free structure for clear cost tracking.
→ Open XM Standard Account ($5)Active Day Traders — 5–20 Trades Daily
You trade regularly and spread costs meaningfully affect your overall P&L. The Ultra Low account's 0.6 pip EUR/USD with no commission is approximately 46% cheaper per trade than Standard — a significant compounding advantage over time.
→ Open XM Ultra Low Account ($50)Professional Scalpers and HFT — 50+ Trades Daily
You execute high-frequency strategies where even 0.1 pip per trade matters at scale. Raw spread access on the Zero account combined with EA automation on MT4/MT5 provides the most aggressive cost structure XM offers.
→ Open XM Zero Account ($100)Muslim Traders Requiring Halal Trading
Swap-free (Islamic) accounts are available on Micro, Standard, and Ultra Low. Request the conversion via XM live chat after opening any of these accounts. No swap charges — same spreads as the standard version of your chosen account.
→ XM Islamic Account GuideTraders Who Want the No Deposit Bonus
If the no deposit bonus (~$30 free credit) is available in your country, open a Micro or Standard account first to claim it — you can always upgrade to Ultra Low later from the same Members Area. The Zero account is not bonus eligible.

Can I switch from one XM account type to another?
You cannot convert an existing XM account from one type to another (e.g. Standard to Ultra Low). However, you can open a new account of any type from your existing Members Area without re-registering — your KYC is already approved and carries over. You can then fund the new account and either keep both or withdraw the old account. See our XM ware rekening gids for the step-by-step account opening process.
What is the difference between XM Micro and Standard lot sizing?
The lot sizing difference is important for position sizing but often misunderstood. On a Micro account, 1 lot = 1,000 units. A 0.01 lot trade controls 10 units of currency. On a Standard account, 1 lot = 100,000 units — so 0.01 lots controls 1,000 units. For most practical purposes, when both accounts use a 0.01 minimum lot size, the Micro account gives you 100x smaller exposure per minimum trade. This makes the Micro account significantly safer for very small account balances.
Do all XM account types have the same leverage?
Yes. All four account types — Micro, Standard, Ultra Low, and Zero — offer leverage up to 1:1000 for clients registered under XM's global entities (IFSC Belize, FSCA South Africa). EU clients under XM's CySEC entity are capped at 1:30 on major forex pairs and 1:20 on gold under ESMA rules. Leverage does not change between account types — it is determined by your entity and the instrument being traded. See our XM hefboom gids for full details.
✓ Our Recommendation — Start Micro, Graduate to Ultra Low
The most effective path for most traders: open a Micro account at $5 to experience live market conditions with minimal risk. Trade for 4–8 weeks and develop consistent position sizing discipline. Then open an Ultra Low account at $50 — the 46% lower spread cost is meaningful over time, and the account is still commission-free and bonus-eligible. Only upgrade to Zero if you reach 50+ trades per day at standard lot sizes.
